Pike man facing fifth DUI charge in five years

George David HessFour times over the past 5 years, George David Hess has been convicted for DUI. Now, he’s facing yet another DUI charge, one which could land him in jail for several years.

Hess, 56, of Raccoon in Pike County, was indicted last Wednesday on a DUI charge stemming from a January 19th arrest. According to the indictment, Hess has been convicted four times in past five years; once in 2013, twice in 2014, and in May of last year.

Now, he’s facing a felony DUI charge, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Pike Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Bartley said that although Hess’ previous convictions fall within 5 years, state law was recently changed. He said drivers can have arrests as far back as 10 years, up from the previous 5, considered in new cases.

George Hess remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

According to the booking log at the Pike County Detention Center, Hess has been arrested 10 times for DUI, and several for alcohol intoxication, since December 2000.
