PAINTSVILLE, KY. – An intoxicated man stabbed a Paintsville police officer Monday at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.
According to the citation PPD Officer Tyler Cable was responding to a complaint when he found Justin Fields, 31, in the store eating peanuts.
Cable noted in the citation that Fields’ speech was slurred, and he had bloodshot and glossy eyes.
When Cable approached Fields to detain him Fields turned around and stabbed Cable at the top of his right arm. After stabbing the officer Fields fled on foot out of the store documents said.
During the foot pursuit Officer Cable deployed his taser and was able to secure Fields.
Fields stated in the citation that he “did meth before he had walked in the store.”
Fields is lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on charges of public intoxication, second-degree fleeing or evading a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree assault, theft by unlawful taking, resisting arrest, menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct.
